What to do in and around Leukerbad
Eating Out
Leukerbad has some excellent restaurants. Some of our favourites are:
The Römerhof (www.roemerhof.ch) – good and varied food right in the centre of the village
The Waldhaus (www.hotel-waldhaus.com) – past the Lindner Alpentherme towards the Torrentbahn. Excellent food.
The Heilquelle (http://www.heilquelle.ch) – good food opposite the Römerhof
Pizzeria Giardino (http://www.heilquelle.ch) – the pizza and pasta restaurant of the Heilquelle
Tannenheim Café – right next door to the Residenz Ambassador (perfect for breakfast...)
Birchen Restaurant – 15 minutes walk from the village. Specialty of 'Rösti'
The Swiss cook of the year 2006 is head chef at the Hotel Terminus in the valley (www.hotel-terminus.ch)
Eating In
Migros supermarket – in the centre, all the basics and more besides (excellent fruit and veg)
Le Pain – bread and pastries, close to Migros and at the Lindner Alpentherme
Rossgillu – meat and deli, opposite the Burgerbad
Ferme Gemmet – superb cheese, much of it local. Two minutes walk past Migros and UBS
John’s Wine Shop – good choice of local wines, close to Migros and Le Pain
Thermal Baths
Try either:
The Burgerbad (www.burgerbad.ch) or
The Lindner Alpentherme (www.lindner.de)
Both are wonderfully relaxing! Lie back in the clear mountain air on the submerged benches in the 30 degree C thermal waters and look up at sparkling mountains that surround Leukerbad. In cooler weather watch the steam rise as you swim outdoors.
