Leukerbad in winter
Leukerbad offers excellent skiing – especially at the intermediate level.
There are 16 ski lifts and the highest reaches an altitude of 2,850 metres. There is direct access to 50 km of pistes – and, with many pistes above 2,500, there is a mass of snow sure activity. Main access is via the Torrentbahn cable car.
Sledging and 18 km of beautiful cross country skiing are available at
the top of the Gemmi on the
other side of the valley to the Torrent. Access is via the spectacular Gemmibahn
cable car – straight into the winter wonderland.
There are exciting plans currently in place to link Leukerbad with the Lötschental Unesco World Heritage Site to create the Skiwell ski area, adding another 20 km of high altitude pistes.
Imagine being able to ski from the Lauchneralp Glacier at 3,111 metres straight down to the steaming thermal baths in only 30 minutes!
Leukerbad in summer
Leukerbad is a summer paradise.
There are a multitude of opportunities for walkers and hikers. A ‘stroll’ down to the lush and fertile Rhone valley with a bus back up the hill – or float up from the village in the Gemmibahn cable car to explore round the beautiful Daubensee.
From the top of the
Gemmi, it is also possible to hike across to either Adelboden or Kandersteg
enjoying the high altitude and spectacular
views on the way.
Stop at Berghotel Schwarenbach, one of the oldest mountain inns in Switzerland, for a plate of raclette on the way! Public transport back to Leukerbad if you so wish. Hike too to Crans Montana.
There are a multitude of well kept routes and tracks all around the area.
There is an excellent golf course at Leuk down in the Valley. Bikes can be hired locally, and there are many well groomed local trails.
Truly something for everybody!
